Customize check-ins
You can tailor check-ins to fit how your workspace and teams work. Reword the questions, turn completion and mood tracking on or off, and choose who checks in and when. Some settings apply to the whole workspace, and others to a single team:
- Workspace settings are for account administrators, in Workspace settings - Check-ins.
- Team settings are for administrators and Team Leads. On the Teams & People page, select “Team Settings” from the menu on the team, then select “Check-ins” from the left-hand menu.
Customize check-in questions
In workspace settings, you can reword the accomplishments, completions, intentions, blockers, and mood questions to fit your team’s vocabulary, and rename the label used for each answer in reports and published check-ins. Use Restore defaults to go back to the original wording.
Why every team gets the same check-in questions
Check-in questions apply to the whole workspace so every team’s answers roll up together. When everyone answers the same questions, you can compare across teams, spot blockers that span the org, and track sentiment over time. The defaults (what you did, what’s next, what’s in your way) are the fewest, best questions we’ve found for keeping a team in sync. You can reword them to fit your vocabulary, and every team still answers the same kind of question.
When a team needs to track something more specific, use Goal Stories to track progress toward an outcome over time.
Completion tracking
Track completions is on by default. It asks people whether they did what they intended in their last check-in. Turn it off in workspace settings to remove the question for every team. While it’s on for the workspace, each team can turn it off in its own team settings.
Mood tracking
Track mood is off by default. Turn it on in workspace settings to add an emoji-based mood picker to the check-in form. Answering is optional. If you’re looking for the mood picker and can’t find it, this setting is why. Mood answers roll up to the Mood report on Insights.
Once mood tracking is on for the workspace, teams use it by default, and each team can turn it off in its own team settings. When it’s off for the workspace, no team can turn it on.
Schedules and participants
- Collection days: in team settings, pick the days the team is asked to check in. See Modify check-in collection days.
- Who checks in: in team settings, choose which team members are asked to check in, or turn off check-ins for the whole team. See Turn off check-ins for a team member.
- Reminder and summary times: in workspace settings, set the default check-in reminder time and summary delivery time, and choose whether the summary arrives the next day. Times are relative to each person’s time zone. People can set their own reminder time and summary time in personal settings.
